The majority of law firms use Microsoft Office 2003; however they have started updating to Office 2007. There is a difference, so don't think you can "wing it." 2003 is menu driven; whereas, 2007 uses the ribbon. Office 2010 is the newest MS Office program, hasn't shown up in the firms, yet.
The software law firms want you to know how to use is MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. In addition, our corporate clients frequently ask for experience with Access and Publisher.

PACER - Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER)
PACER allows users to obtain case and docket information from all district, bankruptcy and federal appellate courts via the Internet. Case file documents are available immediately after they have been electronically filed.
What is CM/ECF? Case Management/Electronic Case Filing is a management system that allows courts to maintain electronic case files and offer electronic filing over the Internet.
Think PACER for searching and CM/ECF for filing. PACER searches can find CM/ECF documents but you need a separate account to use CM/ECF to file documents.
PACER is available to anyone who registers for an account. See the PACER website for details, www.pacer.gov.

Typing
Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing
Do you want to increase your typing speed in a short period of time?
Our office purchased an inexpensive software program called Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing and all of us increased our typing speed dramatically within a month.
The program monitors your progress, flags your weak spots and offers challenging lessons to help you continue improving your keyboard skills. You can find the program for about $20 or rent it from your local library.
Did you know:
- The average person types more with the left hand than the right.
- The letters in the word "typewriter" are all located on the same row of the keyboard.
- "Stewardesses" is the longest word typed with only the left hand and "lollipop" with your right.
- The sentence: "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" is used for practice because it uses every letter of the alphabet.
